Thomas S. Brown
Thos. S. Brown, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Douglas County, died at his residence on Bryant Creek last Thursday. Mr. Brown was one of the pioneers of this county, and left a large family of children and grandchildren.  He was a preacher, and had served his country during the great civil war. He was born in 1814, and came to this state from Indiana in 1840. He was married in 1846, and leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his death. Mr. Brown was highly respected by his many friends, for his many kind deeds and hospitality. His body was buried in Yates Cemetery, Friday evening May 15, 1896. And when we gather at the river, is it not a sweet consolation to think that among the loved and lost, he will meet you on the other side. His family has the heart-felt sympathy of the entire community.
