Norman Fred Smith DIES NEAR ISABEL Norman F. Smith passes Thursday Afternoon at J. E. Thornton Home Isabel, March 12, 1943 (AP) Norman F. Smith, well on his way toward his 91st birthday, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Thornton, near here in Gove township, Pratt county, at 3:30 o'clock. He was 90 years, six months and 23 days of age. Mr. Smith had made his home in this community since 1905, moving from Belle Plaine, where he had settled in 1903 after coming from Illinois to Kansas. He retired from the farm in 1928. Mrs. Smith died in 1930. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Thornton; two sons, Lester Smith of Canyon, Texas and Otis Smith of Larned; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Jennie, died in 1914. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Isabel Methodist Church with Rev. L. N. Annadown as the minister. Interment will be in Isabel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy Allen, Ed Miller, Albert Nuenschwander, Elmer Thompson, Bruce Hiskett and William Inslee. Mission Mortuary of Pratt is in charge. Mr. Smith suffered a fractured hip last summer and responded nicely to medical treatment at Wichita and Nashville hospitals before being taken to Mrs. Thornton's home, where she cared for him the past few months. Mr. Smith was born at Litchfield, Illinois on August 18, 1852. Funeral Service For Old Resident Death of N. F. Smith In the passing last Thursday of Norman F. Smith at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Thornton, Pratt county lost one of it's oldest citizens. Mr. Smith was almost 91 years old. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon with Rev. Annadown officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Howard Titus, Mrs. Ray Bell, Mr. Coffman and Mr. Brewster, with Mrs. Coffman at the piano, rendered beautiful music. The casket-bearers were Albert Neuenschwander, Roy Allen, Ed Miller, Elmer Thompson, Bruce Hiskett and William Inslee. Mr. Smith broke his hip last summer, and after weeks in the hospitals, was brought to his daughter's home. He had been a farmer in this community since 1905 and was a true friend. Lester Smith Funeral services for Lester Smith, 84, a resident of Amarillo since 1946, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N. S. Griggs Pioneer Chapel. Joe Crane, minister of the Nondenominational Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Mr. Smith, of 908 S. Alabama, died early Friday morning at Hillhaven Convalescent Center. He was a retired farmer and stockman. Surviving are his wife, Emma; three sons, Lester of Canyon, Wayne of Dumas and Kenneth of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Masters of the home, Miss Stella Smith of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. John Brown of Grissom Air Force Base, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Audrew Thornton of Strafford, Kan.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Emma ( Bryan ) Smith Former resident's burial conducted Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon for former Canyon resident, Emma Bryan Smith, 90, who died early Tuesday morning at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. She was born October 8, 1893 in Stonington, Colorado and was wed to Lester Smith at Konantz, Colorado on Dec. 31, 1911. He died on March 31, 1972. The Smiths moved to Canyon in 1917 from Panhandle and had moved to Amarillo in 1943 residing at 908 S. Alabama. She was a member of a nondenominational church there. Services were conducted by Dale Spencer at Schooler-Gordon-Herring Funeral Chapel, Canyon, with interment following at Dreamland Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons. Survivors include three sons: Lester Smith of Canyon, Wayne Smith of Dumas, and Kenneth Smith of Houston; three daughters: Eleanor Masters, Stella Smith and Nell Brown all of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Stella Mae Smith Stella Mae Smith, 77, of 908 S. Alabama St., died Thursday, December 24, 1992. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in N. S. Griggs Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd, with Bill Williams of the Nondenominational Church at Tulia officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, Texas. Miss Smith, born in Carson County, moved to Amarillo in 1984. She graduated Lab Technical School in Seattle and worked most of her life as a medical lab technician. She was an accomplished oil painter. Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Masters and Nell Brown, both of Amarillo, and three brothers, Lester A. Smith of Canyon, Wayne Smith of Dumas, and Kenneth Smith of Amarillo. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
